Simon is the founder of Soldstory ®, Livingroom Estate Agents ®, Mr Torode Brand Consultancy, Mr Torode Photography and Made in Guernsey publications. Simon now works between Guernsey and London for a collection of businesses that use creativity as foundation for progress.
Following a successful career in London as an advertising creative, Simon realised there was a way to integrate his creative skills with his passion for property and in January 2006 founded Livingroom Estate Agents on the island of Guernsey. He knew that people buying and selling their homes wanted more from their estate agent. With an extensive knowledge of property, interior design, photography and creative brand design, Simon is the driving force in Livingroom’s unique and cutting edge brand development which has placed Livingroom at the forefront of the industry and recipient of many awards - both nationally and further afield.
Simon was a founding member of the Guernsey charity YPG (Young People Guernsey). Young People Guernsey (YPG) is a Guernsey charity that identifies and responds to the needs of young people in the Bailiwick. YPG’s first project was a partnership with Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, commissioning them to provide an information, advice and guidance centre in St. Peter Port for young people aged 11-16 years called ‘The Hub’. Simon continues to help charities visually communicate their needs through advertising, branding and media planning.
Soldstory ® was founded by Simon in 2015 and is a marketplace for authentic, handcrafted creative works. Simon has spent the past few years developing his skills as a photographer, travelling the world to document people, places and communities. Having launched a basic website to host his photography back in 2013 it was time to explore this path further and find a more inclusive way of selling his work. Simon knew that living on the small island of Guernsey shouldn’t be a barrier to how work is published. The power of global, social connectivity means access to the world at the touch of a button; no matter how isolated a creative’s studio may be they need no longer feel that they work alone. While researching possibilities, it was apparent that competition in the industry was strong but there was a fundamental lack of personality and a generalised corporate mind-set forming barriers between the creative and those who purchase their work. By truly understanding how a creative mind works, Simon founded Soldstory which allows creatives to personalise their online presence; setting out their story, explaining to their potential consumers a little more about themselves and their work. Research has shown that consumers want more personality and engagement from online retailers - they want to know the story. After all if you’re going to invest in a creative piece then the story behind it is often as compelling as the content. It was from this very simple concept that Soldstory was formed.
