My work is often focused on scientific, psychological and socio-cultural issues which I explore through surreal and symbolic execution. Through conveying inter-connectivity juxtaposed with fragmentation or partially-revealed detail, I aim to aptly represent how humankind attempts to make sense of our evolving existence and environment.
Born in England, raised in Guernsey and drawing before I could walk, communicating and thinking through the visual is an intrinsic part of who I am. Throughout school it was art that held sway over my aspirations and interests, the infinite ways to analyse and discuss topics in our world resonated with me profoundly.
Upon entering the world of employment I worked for the award winning jewellery designer Catherine Best in the Channel Islands where I had a fantastic experience combining my hand-crafting skills with design. Catherine was very encouraging and has an admirable robust positive spirit.
A fews years later my desire to become an artist once again came calling and I left for the UK to study art and design resulting in a degree in illustration in 2011. After some sucess in national competitions and after freelancing in various sectors of illustration and graphic design plus with some exhibitions in galleries including the Saatchi, La Galleria and Somerset House in London and galleries in Guernsey, my practice chiefly began returning to realms of fine art in 2014.
Combinations of graphite, charcoal and acrylic were the mediums I used to create my works in recent years - yet in 2015, coinciding with relocating to lead a 'green' new life in the beautiful Zala county, western Hungary, I rediscovered oil painting which has allowed me to expand and evolve my images and concepts tremendously.
Currently, I create original art works, bespoke portraitures and limited edition art prints.
“He manages to get so much detail and texture into the piece that you almost take for granted that it’s a pencil illustration.”
“The body of work is an intelligent and well-researched discourse, but moreover, the images Cranmer has created offer a quiet sense of grandeur and simplicity, providing a delectable echo to their subject matter.”
“His Illustration style is sublimely delicate and atmospheric”.
” The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. “ ― Albert Einstein
